How Do Solar Panels Work?

Step 1:  Sunlight Absorption: Solar panels on the roof absorb sunlight. Each panel contains photovoltaic (PV) cells made from semiconductor materials, which convert sunlight into direct current (DC) electricity.

Step 2:  Conversion to Usable Power: The DC electricity flows from the panels to an inverter, which converts it into alternating current (AC) electricity, which is the standard electrical current used in homes.

Step 3:  Power Distribution: This AC electricity is then routed from the inverter to the home’s electrical panel and is distributed to power lights, appliances, and other devices within the home.

Step 4:  Excess Energy Handling: When the system generates more electricity than the home uses, the surplus can be fed back into the electricity grid (if grid-tied), potentially earning credits from the utility company through net metering, or it can be stored in home batteries for later use.

4 Steps of The Solar Installation Process

Step 1:  Assessment and Design: Evaluate the suitability of the home for solar installation, including roof integrity, orientation, and energy needs, followed by designing a customized solar panel system.

Step 2:  Preparation: Any necessary repairs are made to the roof to ensure a secure installation. The area where the panels will be installed is cleaned, and obstructions such as tree branches are cleared to prevent shading.

Step 3:  Installation: Secure mounts to the roof, attach and connect the solar panels to these mounts, and install the inverter for converting the electricity from DC to AC.

Step 4:  Connection and Activation: After passing final inspections, connect the system to the utility grid for energy offset and activate the system to start generating solar power for the building.
