20th Operation:  Raise The Roof

HONORING CAPT. MARIAH KOCHAVI & GOLD STAR MOTHER mary king

Operation Raise the Roof will honor the service and sacrifice of US Army Capt. Mariah Kochavi by donating a new roof to her Gold Star Mother.

Capt. Mariah Kochavi grew up in Bethesda, MD and spent her summers at an equestrian center in New York where she cleaned stalls, groomed horses, and assisted a therapeutic riding program for children with autism. Shortly after graduation from Pomona College with a degree in German Studies and Art, Capt. Mariah Kochavi enlisted in the US Army. Mariah continued her education and graduated from the prestigious Tufts University in 2006 as a veterinarian.

Mariah was stationed at Fort Meade where she cared for bomb-sniffing dogs and other military animals. A big heart led Mariah to pilot an adoption program for the pets of deployed soldiers. Unexpectedly, while vacationing in Peru, Mariah suffered a stroke. Recovering from complications allowed Mariah to work closely with the Caisson Platoon Equine- Assisted Riding Program offering valuable feedback and support.

Tragically, Capt. Mariah Kochavi lost her life on December 24, 2009, at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Each time an active-duty service member dies, a heart broken mom becomes a Gold Star Mother. “Over 300 million people live in the United States, and lessthan 1% are military mothers,” stated Al Kincaid, Operation Raise the Roof founder continued to share, “Caring for military moms and offering our support is one small way we can honor the most supreme sacrifice.”

Operation Raise the Roof was created by Valor Home to give back to service-disabled veterans in need of support.

Operation Raise the Roof now stands alone as a 501c3 non-profit charitable organization. While we believe all Veterans deserve a sturdy roof over their head, we focus on the most needing Veterans from WWII, Korea and Vietnam Wars as well as the families of fallen service members thru our partnership with American Gold Star Mothers, Inc.
